After the Navy, he worked in Citrus Heights, CA for 35 years as welder. Following retirement, he ended up living in Diamond Springs, CA. Ed is survived by his wife, Janet, their son, Thomas, and their daughter Michelle Alves-Churilo, nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Anderson, Richard, Jr. 09/01/2016	CDR(SS) 1967-1968, 1972-1973	Born May 27, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating from the US Naval Academy in 1958, Richard served on a cruiser and 5 submarines. He was both the XO and CO on the SS346. He was the 37th person to qualify as a Deep Submergence Vehicle Operator. After retiring from the Navy as a Captain, he was a civilian employee of the Navy until 2003. He had a fondness for basset hounds and bloodhounds, and with his wife, bred and rescued hounds for over 50 years. He is survived Barbara by his wife of 57 years, 4 remaining children, and 5 grandchildren.
Angus, Alexander "Sandy" 04/29/2022	SN(SS) 1963	Born July 13, 1941 in Amesbury, MA. Sandy also served on the USS Diablo (SS-479). After the Navy, he was the owner and operator of Good Luck Farms restaurant, and was a Lieutenant on the Lynnfield Fire Department before retiring. Sandy enjoyed collecting antiques, was a fan of old fire trucks. In addition, he belonged to the Antique Truck Club of America, and the Makasue Ski Club. He is survived by his wife Janet, two daughters, and four grandchildren.

Ayers, Ken 02/24/2009	EN1(SS) 1964-1969	Born March 23, 1928 in Providence, RI. Ken served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1969. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for United Nuclear as an inspector for 18 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason belonging to both Summerset Lodge #34 and Oxoboxo Lodge #116. Ken passed away at home with his family by his side. In addition to Elsie, his loving wife of 45 years, Ken is survived by his 5 children, 16 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Bailey, Craig "Bob" 11/2021	TM2(SS) 1958-1959	Born June 22, 1940. After the Navy Bob had lifelong maritime career working on fishing vessels, yachts, and merchant ships in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico. He was the owner/operator of an ocean tug named Dr. Daniels. At 72 he moved to Rutherfordton, NC, and enjoyed making new friends and sharing his adventures that few people would ever experience. Bob is survived by his brother, a son, a daughter, a granddaughter and his ex-wife Banca.
Bailey, Robert "Bob" 11/2023	TM2(SS) 1958-1959	Born in Omaha, NE in 1935. Bob also served on the USS Batfish (SS-310). After the Navy he attained a Horticulture degree in 1965 at South Dakota State University. Bob spent 25 years in greenhouse/nursery work and after that 20 years in building maintenance with 10 of those years at Cannon Beach Christian Conference Center in Oregon. He retired to Prescott, AZ in 2000 and moved to Sun City, AZ in 2007. Robert is survived by his two sons, Todd and Ryan.
Baker, James E. 04/29/2021	CS2(SS) 1953-1955	Born on March 6, 1932 in Hazlehurst, MS. James also served on the USS Trumpetfish (SS-425), USS Bluegill (SS-242), and USS Flasher (SS-613), and retired as a CSC(SS). He settled in northern Arkansas and was the Chief of Police for Yellville, AR. In his later years, James retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and was a Freemason. He is preceded in death by his wife Lucy, and survived by his three sons, five grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Bartlett, Tom 04/15/2015	EN3(SS) 1967-1970	Born December 31, 1947 in Chicago, Ill. Also served on the USS Piper (SS-409). He worked as a cab driver, volunteer fireman, steelworker, and real estate broker. In January 2015 he retired as a Budget Analyst with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Tom had a passion for long road trips and all genres of music. He created and maintained the SS346 website for 10 years. He is survived by his former wife of 26 years, 3 children, and 3 grandchildren.

Boulais, John P. 06/25/2022	MM3 1963-1964	Born on December 29, 1941 in Holyoke, MA. John also served on the USS Henry L Stimson (SSBN-655), USS Boston (CAG-1), and USS Allagash (A)-97). He owned and worked at the Boulais Service Station until the day of his passing. Landscaping and gardening at home brought him great joy. John was highly active in supporting youth sports in Holyoke, coaching baseball and soccer for many years. John is survived by his wife Margaret and four children.
Bowyer, James 03/2009	MM3(SS) 1971-1973	Born February 16, 1949 and enlisted in 1970. James also served on the USS Sam Rayburn (SSBN-635) Gold Crew. After discharge, he received his Masters degree in Trade and Industrial Education from Oklahoma State University. He taught at 4 junior and senior high schools where he earned the reputation as a concerned and caring teacher. He was also a master craftsman who built all of his wooden furniture. James is survived by his wife, Carma and 2 children, Shawna and Christopher, and 3 grandchildren.
Brandt, Robert 12/2020	LT(SS) 1962-1963	Born on May 5, 1935 in Erie, PA. Robert also served on the Ulysses S. Grant (SSBN-631), USS Tang (AGSS-563) and was XO on the USS Gudgeon (AGSS-567). In addition, he commanded the Guided Missile School at Dam Neck, VA. After 28 years of service, Robert retired from the Navy as a Captain. He loved a good joke, made great margaritas, enjoyed Penn State football, tennis, and golf. He is survived by his wife Pat, two sons, and several grandchildren.

He served as a Torpedoman's Mate for ten years on the USS Corporal (SS-346), USS Bashaw (SS-241), and USS Sea Devil (SS-400). He became an officer and was on numerous command staff positions before his retirement after 40 years. In 1988 Rod returned home to his family’s farm in Springville as a gentleman farmer where he planted crops of pine trees and raised cattle.

Carey, Russ 08/2014	IC2(SS) 1964-1968	After the Navy, Russ received his BS degree from Southern Illinois University and both a Master's Degree and Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He was a Research Scientist at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona until 1988. After that was a scientific instrument sales consultant from which he retired in 2010. Russ is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jan, daughters Colleen Bergeron and Jennifer Lewis, and five grandchildren.
Carlson, Fred 09/01/2012	ET3(SS) 1949-1951	Born March 16, 1930. Fred served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve from 1947 to 1990 and retired as an ET1(SS). In addition to serving on the USS Corporal, he was a Plank Owner of USS Tang (SS-563) and was a nuclear reactor operator on the USS Nautilus (SSN-571). He worked at Knolls Atomic Power Lab operated by GE for 29 years and retired from there in 1990. Fred is survived by his wife Sondra, 4 children, and 7 grandchildren.

Cookman, James 10/29/1971	EMC(SS) 1966-1967	Born January 7, 1930. "Cookie" joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 and retired in 1970. He forged his papers to get into the Navy, and made his first war patrol when he was just 16 years old. In addition, he was on the USS Chopper in 1959 when the submarine experienced a malfunction and took a 47 degree down angle passing below 400 feet.
Cox, Charles J. 04/04/2020	LT(SS) 1963-1965	Born September 21, 1938. After serving as Weapons Officer and Engineering Officer on the USS Corporal, Charles volunteered for Vietnam and served as the CO of River Assault Division 111 from 12/67 to 12/68. As a result of actions during his tour he received the Navy Cross (see award citation), Purple Heart, Silver Star Medal, and Bronze Star Medal with combat V device. In 1976-1977 he was CO of USS Turner Joy (DD-951). Charles retired as a Commander after 21 years of service. As a civilian he enjoyed reading, his dogs, maintaining close ties with the men who served alongside him, and college football.
Crane, Edwin 09/2012	EM1(SS) 1945-1946	WWII subvet. Ed was the last known member of the USS Corporal 1945 Commissioning Crew. In 2009, Dave Eberhart, Paul Staffey, and Phil Fettig visited Ed at his home. We had the honor hearing about the USS Corporal in her first days. We presented Ed with a USS Corporal hat and took him out to lunch. He gave us a scrapbook of early photographs which Phil has either taken to reunions or sent a copy.

Dimino, Gabriel "Gabe" 03/2006	ET3(SS) 1967-1968	After the U.S. Navy, John earned a Master's Degree in Education at Temple University in Philadelphia. He taught at both high school and college level, as well as serving as a social worker for low income teens and adults trying to get training and employment. He was also a management trainer for Honeywell and Stone and Webster Engineering. For fun, John was a musician who sang and played bass guitar.
Dionne, Phil 03/2009	MOMM1(SS) 1945-1946	Born November 5, 1922 in Nashua, N.H. Phil joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, qualified on the USS Darter (SS-227), and participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in 1944. After the war, he was a USS Corporal Plank Owner as a Machinist Mate before changing his rating to Nuclear Electronics Technician. Phil was on the USS Skate (SSN-578) when it surfaced at the North Pole in 1958. He retired in 1973 at a ETC(SS).

Eberhart, David 09/2024	STS2(SS) 12/65-8/67	Born September 23, 1944. Dave also served on the USS Blenny (SS-324) and the USS Wahoo (SS-565). After serving 9 years in the Navy, Dave was an Apartment Property Manager, Auto Salesman, and a Volvo/Mazda Dealership Manager. Dave liked writing stories and worked for a local Community College helping students with papers. After retirement he was a salesman and bartender. Never losing his love of the Submarine Service, he was a Restoration Volunteer on the USS Drum memorial in Mobile, Alabama. Dave is survived by his wife Mary and Stepson John.

He retired after 28 years of accumulated service. Charles was a private Pilot, certified Aircraft Mechanic, and a Gun Shop owner/operator in Corpus Christi. Charles was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie and is survived by many relatives.

After high school, he enlisted and finished near the top of his class in both Submarine and Mechanical Schools. Dan was the first (or one of the first) U.S. Navy sailors of Chinese heritage to serve on a WWII Combat Submarine Patrol. He was a Compliance Officer for two local brokers/dealers prior to his retirement. In his younger days, Gary was an elite distance runner and completed more than 26 marathons. He was a lifelong resident of Glastonbury, CT. Gary is survived by Diane, his wife of 53 years, in addition to several nephews.

After retirement from the Air Force, he was a member of the VFW Post 648 in Rutland, American Legion Post 39 in Poultney, Air Commandos in Ft. Walton, FL and the Submarine Veterans of Vermont. Gib also enjoyed a good round of golf. Gib is survived by his wife Marie, four children, five step-children, and several grandchildren.

Skiles, Norman F. 03/2015	RM2(SS) 1946-1946	Born January 18, 1923 in Elizabeth City, NC. WWII subvet. Normal made five war patrols on USS Harder (SS-257) and was transferred in July 1944 a little over a month before she was lost on her sixth war patrol. He served on seven submarines and retired as a Chief in 1961. After the Navy he worked for the US Postal service. In his retirement, he found joy as a Deacon and visiting the sick and shut in.

Staffey, Paul 08/2019	TM3(SS) 1964-1967	Paul spent most of his 4 year enlistment on the USS Corporal. In 1966 he was temporarily assigned to the USS Piper (SS-409) for a short while. After discharge he returned to Illinois and worked on Ohio and Mississippi River barges, and served 25 years on the Carbondale Police Department, retiring as a Lieutenant. After retiring he volunteered on the USS Drum (SS-228) at Battleship Park in Mobile, Alabama.
Story, Hardin C. 07/12/2017	TMSN(SS) 1949-1951	Born April 19, 1926. He started as a Torpedoman on the USS Corporal. Hardin also served on the USS Cusk (SS-348), USS Carbonero (SS-337), USS Arcadia (AD-41), and Howard W. Gilmore (AS-16). He was also on the on the staff of Submarine Squadron 12 in Key West, FL. In 1971 Hardin retired as a Lieutenant Commander. As a civilian he was a realtor for a few years and then just enjoyed retirement traveling back and forth between his two homes from Key West, FL to Pegram, TN.

Tullock, Jack 04/2014	RM1(SS) 1963-1966	Born April 19, 1941. Also served as a TM3 (SS) on the USS Besugo (SS-321) and USS Volador (SS-490). After leaving the Navy, Jack was the owner and operator of Tennessee-Two-Way, a commercial communications company, in Knoxville, TN.
Ulmer, Donald 11/2019	LCDR(SS) 1965-1967	Born March 16, 1929 in Beverly, NJ. In 1947 he enlisted in the Navy and advanced to ET3(SS) on the USS Clamagore before entering the US Naval Academy, graduating in 1954. He was the XO on the Corporal, C.O. of the USS Clamagore, and served on 4 other submarines. In addition, Don worked in the office of the CNO, Naval Sea Systems Command, and Trident Project Manager Staff. He retired as a Captain after 32 years in 1979. After the Navy, he worked at the Boeing Aeorospace Company, and retired in 1996. Don was married 42 years and had 1 son, 3 daughters, and 2 grandchildren.
Underwood, Dale "Slick" 04/19/2021	MM2(SS) 1963	Born June 14, 1942 in Anita, Iowa. Dale also served on the USS Amberjack (SS-522). After the Navy he earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Western State College of Colorado. Dale spent his career working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Window Rock, Arizona and Juneau, Alaska, and the U.S. Forest Service in Gunnison, Colorado. After retirement from government service, he volunteered in various capacities for local non-profits. He was living in Aurora, Colorado at the time of his passing.

He loved playing Rolle Bolle, was an avid reader, enjoyed telling stories, and was passionate about all things John Deere and the Navy. Bill was a member of the American Legion in Geneseo, IL and enjoyed going to Navy reunions. He leaves behind his wife Ruth, 3 daughters, one son, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

After retirement, he was active in the Veterans community in South Carolina. John traveled frequently with his wife and children to many countries around the world. He loved a good joke and was an avid golfer for many years. John is survived by his wife Maureen, 4 children, and 5 grandchildren.

He spent his civilian career in diesel parts and large machinery sales. Murray loved hunting, fishing and boating. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was living in Belvidere, NJ at the time of his passing.

After the Navy Bill worked 20 years as a building service superintendent for the City of Menasha, Wisconsin before retiring in 2003. Bill and his second wife Judie traveled all over the U.S. in their RV with cats, dogs, and oftentimes, their grandchildren. He ended up living in Sun City, AZ with third wife Sherry where he was a member of a local woodworking club.

After 4 years in the Navy, Red worked for Southland Corporation, Dallas, TX, and managed the ice cream division branch in Gettysburg covering a five state area. He was a member of the Masonic 336 Blue Lodge, Post 202 American Legion, USSVI Tri-State Base, and Barlow Fire Company. He is survived by his wife Betty, 2 sons, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
