He had a fondness for basset hounds and bloodhounds, and with his wife, bred and rescued hounds for over 50 years. As a result of actions during his tour he received the Navy Cross (see award citation), Purple Heart, Silver Star Medal, and Bronze Star Medal with combat V device. In 1976-1977 he was CO of USS Turner Joy (DD-951). Charles retired as a Commander after 21 years of service. As a civilian he enjoyed reading, his dogs, maintaining close ties with the men who served alongside him, and college football. |

Jim was also the Program Manager for the Mars Program which included NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers. |

Normal made five war patrols on USS Harder (SS-257) and was transferred in July 1944 a little over a month before she was lost on her sixth war patrol. He served on seven submarines and retired as a Chief in 1961. After the Navy he worked for the US Postal service. In his retirement, he found joy as a Deacon and visiting the sick and shut in.

After retiring he volunteered on the USS Drum (SS-228) at Battleship Park in Mobile, Alabama. |

He was also on the on the staff of Submarine Squadron 12 in Key West, FL. In 1971 Hardin retired as a Lieutenant Commander. As a civilian he was a realtor for a few years and then just enjoyed retirement traveling back and forth between his two homes from Key West, FL to Pegram, TN. |

In addition, Don worked in the office of the CNO, Naval Sea Systems Command, and Trident Project Manager Staff. He retired as a Captain after 32 years in 1979. After the Navy, he worked at the Boeing Aeorospace Company, and retired in 1996. Don was married 42 years and had 1 son, 3 daughters, and 2 grandchildren. |

After retirement from government service, he volunteered in various capacities for local non-profits. He was living in Aurora, Colorado at the time of his passing. |

Bill and his second wife Judie traveled all over the U.S. in their RV with cats, dogs, and oftentimes, their grandchildren. He ended up living in Sun City, AZ with third wife Sherry where he was a member of a local woodworking club. |
